Issue The Conference and Visitors Bureau of Montgomery County, Maryland, Inc., is charged with attracting group, meeting and leisure travel markets to area hotels and conference centers. Montgomery County’s main competitors are other metropolitan area Maryland and Virginia counties – all of which vie for Washington DC business. The challenge became one of positioning Montgomery County as the suburban destination of choice when visiting the nation’s capital. Solution We suggested positioning which emphasized Montgomery County’s close proximity to Washington, DC – yet, itself, offered tremendous choice in terms of accommodations, dining, shopping, and attractions. Publications and print ads were given a sophisticated look, presenting Montgomery County as an affordable, diverse alternative location in which to base a stay.
